Deep tissue massage is a type of massage therapy that focuses on realigning deeper layers of connective tissues and muscles. It is especially helpful for chronically tense areas such as the low back, shoulders, and neck. Some of the same strokes are used as with Swedish massage therapy, but with deep tissue massage the movement is slower, with deeper pressure, and is directed specifically at areas of tension and pain.
As your Massage Therapist, we may use fingertips, knuckles, hands, elbows, and forearms when providing deep tissue massage.
You may be asked to breathe deeply as we massage certain tense areas in your body that you have mentioned at the beginning of your appointment, or other areas of tension that we have found while providing your massage therapy treatment.
It is important to drink plenty of water after enjoying deep tissue massage to flush metabolic waste from the tissues.
